On this day in 1989, The Who put on a performance, a 20th anniversary one, of “Tommy” at Universal Amphitheater in LA. They have a ton of special guests for the show, including Elton John, Patti LaBelle, Steve Winwood, Phil Collins, and Billy Idol. And it’s a charity performance that raises a lot of money.
Today in 1981, The Rolling Stones released their monster album, “Tattoo You.” Of course, the big hit that we know off the album is “Start Me Up”, which began as a reggae song before becoming the rock song that we all know. A few other hits off the album like “Little T&A”, “Hang Fire”, and “Waiting on a Friend.”
On this day in 1979, The Ramones movie, “Rock and Roll High School”, opens in theaters. The title track from the movie and from the album becomes a classic for the band.
Today in 1967, Keith Moon celebrating his birthday, his 21st birthday, in Flint, Michigan. He drives his Lincoln Continental into the swimming pool at the Holiday Inn, which earns him and the band a lifetime ban from the chain.
