Don McLean released his album “American Pie” in 1971.

The album featured the title track single that became a smash hit.

To call the song a classic is an understatement.

In 2017, McLean’s original recording of the song was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or artistically significant”.

That seems a better description of the song by far.
