Tom Leuschner was nominated by Amy Di Leo who said, “My coworker Tom Leuschner is the guy that helps an elderly woman cross an icy street after a snowstorm, donates blood every six weeks and grows his beard only to shave it to raise money for St. Baldricks Day.
He’s a veteran of the War on Terror where one of his lesser important jobs was as a Patriot missile defense system operator. Tom spent six years in the U.S. Army. He’s been a lineworker at PSEG Long Island for a decade.
Every day, Tom and his lineworker colleagues’ work ensures constant, safe and reliable power. When there is a weather event, motor vehicle accident or other circumstance that causes a power outage, these first responders must make an unsafe area secure before firefighters and police officers can jump in to save lives.
Tom says his day-to-day job as a Working Foreman A in and around North Hempstead is very fulfilling, and even more so when he’s in his storm role. That’s when he says he feels most accomplished and productive in his job. He says the feeling of getting the power back on – giving people back their most important utility when they need it most – actually seeing a dark street become illuminated because of his work – is incredible.
Tom told me, “I am as proud to be a lineworker as I am to be a soldier.” And that’s amazing."
Please join me in thanking and celebrating Tom and the hundreds of PSEG Long Island lineworkers today and every day – Lineworker Appreciation Day is tomorrow – April 18.
Tom, as a small way of saying thanks for all you do for the community, you will receive a $100 gift card to The Pizzeria
