Victor Federico | Honoree for February 17th, 2023

This week’s honoree is Police Officer Victor Federico. He was nominated because, “Vic was hired by the Suffolk County Police Department in 2003. He was assigned to the 4th precinct after the academy until 2017. He was then assigned to aviation in 2017 to present. He has been a pilot since 1987 and is also an active Flight Instructor! Victor was flying corporate jets prior to becoming a police officer which he still currently flies. He has even been a volunteer firefighter for Smithtown fire department for the past 40 years. Victor is married to his wife Susan and they have two young men in there 20′s.

P.O. John Jensen and P.O. Victor Federico were involved in a water rescue 1/15/23. A subject was in the water when his kayak overturned, the water temperature was 40 degrees. P.O. Jensen, as the rescue swimmer, jumped from a helicopter into the frigid water and swam to the stranded subject. When it was apparent no rescue boats could get to the location, P.O. Jensen swam the subject to Pattersquash Island and with the assistance of P.O. Federico, drag the subject out of the water and begin life saving measures. The P.O’s were assisted by civilian paramedic Erin Carey and flying the helicopter was SGT. John Vahey.”
