AGIBOT ran a 24-hour convenience store in Shanghai’s Xuhui district with six humanoid robots. The shop stayed open to paying customers throughout, and the G2 machines held the jobs that face customers: greeting at the door, restocking shelves, brewing coffee, serving hot food and wiping tables. Two invited testers spent the day trying to trip them, swapping a sugar free cola for a near identical full sugar can, scattering a shelf of chewing gum, standing in an aisle and dropping a box in a robot’s path.
Chinese outlets count 1,730 completed tasks from the shift, including 683 customer receptions, 369 items collected or delivered, 147 coffees, 126 breakfast orders, 277 shelf checks or restocks and 128 table cleanings. AGIBOT has published no success rate and no cost per shift, and a vice president of its embodied research centre names the hands as the hard part: hanging a bag of sweets on a hook, or lifting a soft rice cake without crushing it. The company’s rule for the rest of it is better to be slow than to collide. (From YouTube video description)
