Zak Starkey’s life is pretty far from ordinary. One of the things he shared with me during our conversation is how he feals really blessed because he’s “Never had a job that I would call a job.” He is also a big fan of The Who as well as Oasis. Which makes it fortunate for him to have toured as the drummer for both bands. Those tour experiences will be part of Zak’s one man show coming to Gramercy Theater in Manhattan on Friday February 20th, 2026. You can see a couple videos below of Zak playing with both bands.
The show will include a documentary about Zak. Plus he will do some drumming to film clips of The Who and Oasis and even break down what they are playing. Zak is also leaving space for a Q&A. Zak certainly seems very interested in answering questions from the audience. I’m sure there will be a lot to ask questions about. Consider, his dad is Ringo Starr of The Beatles and as he told me while we were speaking, certified madman Keith Moon used to babysit for him.
John Entwistle had Zak join his solo band while he was still in his teens. During those years he lived with John and even recorded some of Roger Daltrey’s solo album “Under A Raging Moon.” The list of other well known musicians that Zak played with during those years seems endless. It includes Johnny Marr of The Smiths, his dad’s All Starr band and a lot more. It was during the 90’s that Zak began touring with The Who and the Gallagher brothers from Oasis first connected with him.
With all the stories he was able to tell me in about a 20 minute time period, I can’t wait to see what his show is going to be like. I for one, will definitely be there. You should get your tickets and be at the show as well. Watch our interview here and then imagine all the other things Zak said will be in the show. It certainly sounds like it’ll be an amazing show!
