Kaelib’s Kause is a non-profit organization that was born from the heart of a father of a special needs child. Kaelib’s birth was nothing less than tragic and traumatizing as he suffered severe Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), which is a lack of oxygen or blood flow to the infant’s brain during pregnancy or during delivery. Although many times HIE causes are unknown, Kaelib’s situation was due to a placental abruption in which the placenta detaches from the walls of the uterus during the labor and delivery process, which affects the infant’s central nervous system, causing neurological and/or developmental problems, and certainly is life threatening.
