According to Antigo Police Chief Eric Roller, the shooter fired a rifle at two students leaving a building at Antigo High School. An officer already on the scene patrolling the event quickly responded and fired at the shooter, Roller said.

Authorities evacuated all prom guests from the scene.

"We regularly train for these situations through the (high) school and we use the different buildings of the school district," Roller said.

The two victims, who had "non-life-threatening" injuries, and the shooter were transported to a nearby hospital. The female victim was later discharged after being treated for a gunshot wound, and the male victim is undergoing surgery for non-life threatening injuries, WAOW reported.

The Langlade County coroner, Larry Shadick, confirmed on Sunday morning that the shooter died at the hospital. The Antigo Police Department identified the shooter as 18 year-old Jakob E. Wagner.

Roller told WAOW that the Wagner's relationship with the two victims and the motive behind the shooting is not yet known.

It also unknown whether Wagner was a current or former student of Antigo High School.
