Sesame Workshop has not shied away from tough topics.
The children’s programming group has done shows on homelessness, parental drug abuse and death in the past.
“Sesame Street” will once again be tackling another subject at an age-appropriate level.
“The Power of We" will be broadcast starting next week. It is a half-hour special that will help young children understand what racism is and how it can hurt someone. It also will encourage them to speak out whether they are targeted or whether it is someone else, The Associated Press reported.

The show will be done in a video conference format and will also have skits and songs.
One song, “How Do You Know,” has one Muppet ask Elmo how the red character would feel if the other said he didn’t like the color red and therefore didn’t like him. Elmo responds saying, “Elmo wouldn’t care what you said 'cause Elmo is proud, proud to be red," the AP reported.

“Sesame Workshop” has developed online resources so parents and kids can talk about race.
This isn’t the first time “Sesame Street” has discussed racism with children. In June, Sesame Workshop teamed up with CNN for “Coming Together: Standing Up to Racism.”
The new show, “The Power of We,” will air on HBO Max, PBS Kids and PBS stations starting Oct 15.
