The Weber County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning to people who are setting up hammocks on transmission poles carrying power lines — it’s unsafe.

“Over the past few years we have noticed an increase in people hammocking from the power lines on the bench of North Ogden and Pleasant View,” the Weber County Sheriff’s Office said on social media. “These lines carry 75,000 kilovolts and that power can jump from the lines. This activity is extremely risky.”

Deputies and employees with Rocky Mountain Power are increasing patrols of the area. Authorities said anyone caught on the poles will be cited for trespassing. But the outcome could be even worse than a ticket.

“We would really hate to see someone injured from either a fall or electrocution,” officials said.
