Hurricane Sandy has affected all Long Islanders differently. Here are some ways you can help, donate or find relief.

When disaster strikes, Long Islanders come together to help our fellow citizens in need.

We've done our best to compile a list of local businesses and organizations who have resources available to the public. We cannot be responsible for errors or omissions and will do our best to keep the list current. Donations and Other Services:

  • Greater Islip Cares Org. 180 Orville Drive Bohemia, is looking for people that are in need!! We have tons of stuff! food, house hold stuff, baby stuff, hats gloves ,toys ect!! we are very blessed to have everyone get together and donate! For info call 224-2627.
  • MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We are in need of medics and licensed doctors and nurses in the State of New York to volunteer in the Rockaways for first-aid, distributing insulin etc. We also have a station set up at St. Francis at 129th Street Please email message: david@perez18.com
  • Lasting Impressions Photography.  Fully staffed from 9 to 8 every day for any who needs just about anything,  or for anyone who wants to donate. Taking personal care items like soap, tooth paste, deodorant, shampoo, work gloves, contractor bags, boots, socks, things like that. The address is 180 Orville Dr., Bohemia.
  • United Way One Stop Relief To Recovery. November 6-10, 11am-4pm. Roosevekt Hall, Farmingdale State College. Open to all. FEMA and financial, mental health, legal agencies on-site, free access to wifi, soup and beverage provided. Free parking in Lot #9. For more info please call 211 or email livoad@googlegroups.com.
  • St. John's Luthern Church -  36 East John Street, Lindenhurst. 631-226-1274. Rear entrance on Dover Street. Hot food from 2-7pm. Warm building, clothing and household items, food pantry, school supplies, counseling with Pastor. Donations: staple groceries, bread, bagels, cakes, water are greatly appreciated.
  • Heavy Hitters Boxing Gym 2100 Artic Ave in Bohemia N.Y. will be collecting any non perishable foods & clothing to donate to our fellow long islanders in need. We will be collecting money to purchase gift cards to local supermarkets. If you can spare anything Blankets, Clothing anything it will go along way into helping these families in need. Please come down from the hours of 6p.m to 9 p.m
  • Hicks Nurseries and Long Island Cares Helping Hurricane Sandy Victims. Hicks Nurseries, in partnership with Long Island Cares, is a distribution point for food and donations for storm victims. From now through the end of the year, the nursery will be collecting items to help Long Islanders in need. Items in particular need are bottled water, pouch drinks, new blankets, hats, gloves, scarves, underwear, household cleaners, personal care items, pet food and non-perishable food. These items can be brought to the nursery, at 100 Jericho Turnpike in Westbury, 7 days a week for fast delivery to Long Island Cares for redistribution.   • McGuire's Hearing Aids and Audiological Services - Patchogue and Riverhead can provide services to any patients who have scheduled or unscheduled hearing services, or may need batteries or accessories. In addition, McGuire's Mobile Hearing Aid Services is on stand-by for patients in hospitals and nursing homes - at no additional charge.  1-866-447-5115 to schedule an appointment or request McGuire's emergency services.
  • Join Carvel® Ice Cream and the American Red Cross® Thursday, November 15th from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a "FREE Ice Cream" day, and help raise money for victims of Superstorm Sandy. Stop by any participating Carvel, donate $3 to American Red Cross Sandy relief efforts to help our neighbors in need, and receive over $30 in Carvel savings. All proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross for Superstorm Sandy relief.

  • Curiously Creative Candles in Deer Park is open with all your emergency lighting needs. Bring the kids, make a candle, grab some candy! Be safe and patient.
  • East Coast Orthotic & Prosthetic Corp.  Corporate headquarters are based in Deer Park, NY, located right near the Arches at Tanger at  75 Burt Dr. Providing a donation drop-off center for blankets, coats and supplies for those who were affected by Hurricane Sandy.  People can also use  wi-fi and charge their cell phones or electronic devices for free. Our patient area, where the public will be able to access the wi-fi and drop off supplies / pick up supplies that people have donated is at 28 W Jefryn Blvd, Deer Park.
  • The Hair Pavilion II,  971 Main Street, Holbrook - hair washed at no cost. Able to blow dry and style own hair and also charge any devices needed
  • Suffolk Glass - Carlton Ave - Islip Terrace  can fix auto glass, store front glass, etc 631-277-5614

  • Shorham FD is excepting canned goods, clothes of all ages and sizes, diapers, anything baby and up.
  • Donations Centers set up at Ciao Baby in Commack and McCann's in Massapequa
  • Touro Law Center – free legal services to those effected by sandy. Opening up on Monday 631-761-7198
  • Cactus Hair Salons are offering hot free shampoo wash for anyone who doesn't have showers or electric at all of thier 20 locations.
  • Westfield South Shore Mall,  Westfield Sunrise and Long Island Cares have partnered to help bring relief to those on Long Island effected by Hurricane Sandy. From now until the end of December, please bring non-perishable food items, personal care items, baby items and pet food/items to Westfield South Shore Mall. Collection bins are located in Lord & Taylor Court and in front of Cohen's Fashion Optical.  For More information check out their Facebook page.
  • Suffolk Y Jewish Center - 74 Hauppauge rd., Commack. Offering : A warm place to stay, Food, Blankets, Charging of any kind
  • Long Beach is in desperate need of your help.  The Knights of Columbus on Minnesota Ave and West Beech Street is in need of food, clothing, gas, water and all supplies.  Whatever you can donate, would be appreciated.  Donations can be dropped off at Seigermans Furniture at 50 Price Parkway, Farmingdale.  IF you are stranded in Long Beach, come down to the Knights of Columbus for food and supplies.
  • Chiropractor Dr. Mike Sredniawski  Kings Park will donate 100% of my chiropractic services to any and all employees of LIPA and any township employee in Long Island for free.  I realize that these men and women are working very hard to help all of us get back on our feet and there is a lot of heavy lifting going on and without a doubt there are back injuries too.  From 11/5/12, for the next two weeks until and including Monday, 11/19/12.  Office hours to be available as needed, please contact for appointment times.  Call 631-742-1211 or go to  www.kingsparkchiro.com for further information.
  • A Better Choice Eldercare - can refer these families free of  charge to viable options in assisted living communities. We want to alert all people on Long Island that we are here to help families facing extremely difficult situations in caring for an elder in their family who needs assistance especially now. Power may still not be restored to many homes including those who need it most for medical needs etc. Call 1-877-ELDER11 to help find an assisted living arrangement for their family member or friends who cannot care for themselves after this storm.

  • In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, we need to rally together to help our Long Island/NY metro area families! Real simple please drop off your coats, cans & other non- perishables to be distributed for those in need!  Sundays am for the next (2) weeks at The Grill, let's make a difference!  Drop areas:

  • The Order Sons of Italy's Per Sempre Lodge is opening its doors to help our Neighbors in need in the East Rockaway area. We are accepting none perishable food along with clothing at our Lynbrook Lodge. We will be open from Monday through Saturday 12:00pm to 5:00PM each day. We are asking our Neighboring communities to help in our efforts.
  • Free clothes (mens, women's, kids, baby), shoes, blankets, gloves, hats, scarves,food, supplies, etc at The Long Island Exchange 4338 Austin Blvd. Island Park NY Open 9a-5p. Independently set up by Glenn Bert and his family. Loads of free stuff for those in need or affected by Sandy. All are welcome to help themselves to anything they may need. Also, looking for any volunteers looking to lend a hand with sorting donations or helping individuals finding items. Still accepting more donations.

Warming/Charging Stations:

  • LIRR Long Beach Station: After a thorough cleaning and hook-up to a generator, the LIRR has turned its Long Beach Station waiting room into a comfort station for use by the community that survived the hard-hit of Hurricane Sandy.  In addition to heat, water and restrooms, there are power strips available for charging cellphones and other electronic devices.  The comfort station is open daily from 6AM to 4PM.
  • West Islip American Legion Post 1738 at 340 Union Blvd are opening our Post to all West Islip residents as a warming center. We have heat, toilets television, ice, and a kitchen to warm food.   • The East Hampton Library
  • Savino's Sit Down, 511A Commack Road, Deer Park, NY 631-667-3030, www.savinosdeli.com -  open and we are letting people charge whatever they want and are giving free coffee/tea/hot chocolate to anyone who comes in and asks for electric charge up.
  • Nutty Irishman in both Bayshore and Farmingdale - open for charging stations and free wifi.
  • All Home Depots on Long Island are open, some are operating with no power on generators with restricted service. We are still receiving emergency shipments of generators, batteries, and flashlights. Items are going very quick when they come in.
  • Grand Prix Subaru - on 107 in Hicksville
  • Rooms Unlimited 2066 Route 112 Medford open til 9pm
  • Digital Marketing Firm, Fishbat, located in Bohemia adjacent to MacArthur Airport -  we are fully operational with power, wifi, and plenty of available work spaces.  We are offering free emergency office space for area businesses knocked out by the storm. We are also accepting food donations to be given to Island Harvest to help in Long Island's time of need. Fishbat is an official drop site for Island Harvest.

These portable power units can be connected directly to your house through a Gen-Tran switch after consultation and installation by a licensed electrician (Able does not provide that service).  As an alternative to such an installation, you can run extension cords through your house to connect to appliances, etc.  Instruction manual included.

    Free Chiropractic care for hurricane Sandy emergency workers for a week in November 
    Dr's Jeffrey & Richard Block have organized a group of chiropractors on Long Island to provide free chiropractic care to all first responders and emergency relief workers including but not limited to:
